20/03/10 - Spoke to my Granddad today about my project and he said a piece of sustainable design was the Swiss army knife as it the only thing that has changed about it in all the years it has been on the market is they have changed the plastic part on it as they used to make it with a material called Bakelite a substance which resembles plastic and was used before plastic came along.
I used to have two of these. One i bought myself when i was in scouts. The other was my Dads when he was in the scouts. A perfect example of sustaiable design as proved by two generations who both still have a fully functioning products. Its also a very personal item as its something associated with a certain time in my life so the "tedy bear factor" of wanting to keep a product definatley comes into context here.
