People, Planet & Profit

The 3 pillars are People (Social), Planet (Environment) and Profit (Economic). The aim is to provide well-being for all.
‘People’ is about providing well-being for the people who produce or manufacture goods. For example FairTrade, where cocoa bean farmers are paid a decent wage to help improve their standard of living. It is also about providing safe working conditions and abolishing child labour. Another important factor is improving the lives of these people, providing safer water, more food and a healthcare infrastructure to help tackle major diseases such as Malaria and Typhoid.
‘Planet’ is about helping the environment – if a company chose to use a large amount of natural product they should aim to replace the amount ‘stolen’ so that the earth is not damaged now and in the future. Also we have to recycle more materials, such as plastics and glass and find ways of reusing. One major problem is the amount of oil which global companies are extorting from the earth – soon there will be no oil left for the planet of tomorrow – this could result in a change of how the earth functions. Global Warming is directly affecting the animals – soon they too could be extinct.
‘Profit’ is about putting cash back into the earth and worthy causes. Replanting trees, cocoa and plants; providing water irrigation systems, healthcare and education programmes; research and developing cleaner ways to transport products.
